A leading international freight forwarder is seeking an Import Specialist to join their Detroit, MI office. This position will focus on ocean import operations, compliance, and customer service for key accounts.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end ocean import processes including booking, documentation, customs clearance, invoicing, and final delivery

• Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs regulations and company SOPs

• Track and monitor shipments, providing proactive communication to customers

• Resolve exceptions and troubleshoot operational issues as they arise

• Collaborate with carriers, truckers, customs brokers, and internal teams to ensure on-time and accurate delivery

• Support key account customers with tailored solutions and high-touch service

Requirements

• 3+ years of freight forwarding experience, with strong focus on ocean import operations

• Solid knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and import compliance

• Proficiency with CargoWise or similar TMS preferred

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills

• Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities in a fast-paced environment

Compensation

• Competitive base salary (target range: $55,000–$65,000 depending on experience)
