Job Title: Import Manager – Air & Ocean
Location & Job Type: Inwood, NY | Full-Time | In-Office (5 days/week)

Altius Talent is partnering with a well-established freight forwarding and logistics company to identify an experienced Import Manager to lead their Air & Ocean import operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented logistics professional ready to take on a leadership role within a growing team.
Position Overview:
The Import Manager will oversee end-to-end air and ocean import operations, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency across all shipments. This role includes direct supervision of an overseas agent and offers the opportunity to build and mentor a team while managing key client relationships and driving new business development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily air and ocean import operations from booking through final delivery
- Supervise and coordinate with an overseas agent to ensure smooth shipment execution
- Oversee freight rate calculation, quoting, and rate negotiation with carriers and vendors
- Monitor cargo routing and tracking to ensure timely, accurate delivery
- Ensure full compliance with US Customs regulations, including ISF filing and HTS classification
- Manage cargo claims and resolve discrepancies as they arise
- Handle bonded cargo processes and documentation
- Review and process letters of credit as required
- Apply strong knowledge of Incoterms to guide shipment and pricing decisions
- Train, mentor, and develop team members to build a high-performing operations team
- Maintain organized, detail-oriented workflows across all shipment files
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, identifying opportunities for business development
- Serve as a proactive, responsive point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in Air & Ocean import operations; import management experience a plus
- Proficiency with CargoWise required
- Strong working knowledge of Incoterms, US Customs regulations, ISF filing, and HTS classifications
- Experience handling cargo claims and bonded cargo
- Familiarity with letters of credit
- Demonstrated skill in freight rate calculation, quoting, and rate negotiation
- Strong leadership abilities with experience training and mentoring staff
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and compliance-focused
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proactive, responsive, and comfortable multitasking in a fast-paced environment
- Business development mindset with strong customer relationship management skills
