Altius Talent is partnering with a well-established international freight forwarding and logistics provider to find an experienced Air & Ocean Export Specialist for their Long Island, NY office. Our client is a global player in the delivery and logistics space, known for handling high-volume, complex export shipments for major accounts.
Position Overview:
Our client is looking for an experienced export professional to review and process air and ocean export transactions for one or more key accounts. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with global shipping regulations and customs requirements, while collaborating with carriers, freight forwarders, and internal teams to optimize export processes, track cargo, and resolve logistical issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring excellent, timely, and proactive customer service
- Communicate with carriers, overseas agents, and customers via phone and email
- Take booking requests and handle export customer service calls
- Book and schedule ocean container shipments, coordinate cargo pickup/transfers, and manage multi-leg routings or transshipments
- Prepare export documentation and issue pre-alerts
- Request required documents from shippers, including POA, commercial invoice, packing list, insurance certificate, and SLI
- Verify shipments against documentation via periodic warehouse checks
- Prepare quotations for individual shipments, including pricing and carrier selection
- Ensure compliance with TSA, ISO, and international ocean freight regulations and documentation standards
- Process high-volume and/or complex export transactions, including booking, documentation, and billing
- Submit shipment data to relevant government agencies via internal systems
- Process bills of lading for outgoing shipments
- Track shipment status to ensure timely departure/delivery; maintain milestone data
- Handle hazardous materials shipments in accordance with IATA/IMO and CFR regulations
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field
- 3-4 years of relevant experience in air/ocean freight forwarding
- Proven customer service experience, including managing key accounts and negotiating rates
- Strong knowledge of ocean/air freight logistics, export compliance, Incoterms, and international trade regulations
- Experience with shipment tracking systems (e.g., CargoWise)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent written communication skills, particularly professional email correspondence
- Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills
- Professional, positive demeanor
