Position Overview
The Ocean Import Operator will manage the end-to-end handling of ocean import shipments, ensuring timely and compliant processing from vessel arrival through final delivery. This role requires strong attention to detail, hands-on experience with consol shipment coordination, and the ability to manage client and carrier communications effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle ocean import operations for FCL and LCL/consol shipments
- Issue arrival notices to customers and coordinate timely delivery of shipment documentation
- Process and issue Freight Release upon confirmation of payment/compliance
- Coordinate deconsolidation of consol shipments with CFS facilities and co-loaders
- Track and trace shipments, proactively communicating delays or exceptions to clients
- Prepare and review import documentation including bills of lading, invoices, and packing lists
- Coordinate with customs brokerage teams to support timely entry filing and cargo release
- Manage demurrage and detention tracking, working to minimize charges where possible
- Maintain accurate shipment records within operating systems
- Build and maintain strong relationships with steamship lines, CFS operators, and clients
Key Skills & Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in ocean import operations at a freight forwarder or NVOCC
- Hands-on experience issuing arrival notices and Freight Release documentation
- Experience handling consol/LCL shipments and CFS coordination
- Working knowledge of Incoterms, bills of lading, and import documentation requirements
- Experience with a freight forwarding operating system (CargoWise preferred; Magaya or similar also considered)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
