Customs Entry Writer

Location: Manhattan, NY | Job Type: Full-Time

Company Overview
Altius Talent is partnering with an established customs brokerage and freight forwarding provider in Manhattan to identify an experienced Customs Entry Writer. Our client offers a stable, growth-oriented environment within the international trade compliance space.

Position Overview
The Customs Entry Writer will be responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and filing of customs entries, with particular focus on shipments subject to FDA regulations. This role requires strong knowledge of HTS classification, PGA requirements, and CBP compliance processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file customs entries (ABI/ACE) for ocean and air import shipments
  • Classify goods accurately using HTS codes and apply correct duty rates
  • Prepare and submit FDA prior notice filings and manage FDA-regulated entries (food, cosmetics, devices, and related commodities)
  • Review shipment documentation for compliance with CBP and other Participating Government Agency (PGA) requirements
  • Coordinate with importers, freight operations teams, and government agencies to resolve entry holds or examinations
  • Monitor entries for FDA release status and proactively address any detentions or refusals
  • Maintain accurate and organized entry files in compliance with recordkeeping requirements
  • Communicate with clients regarding entry status, documentation needs, and compliance issues
  • Stay current on evolving CBP and FDA regulations affecting entry processing

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a Customs Entry Writer or in a customs brokerage entry-filing role
  • Demonstrated experience with FDA-regulated shipments and prior notice filing
  • Strong working knowledge of HTS classification, ABI/ACE filing, and CBP/PGA compliance
  • Experience with a customs entry filing system (CargoWise preferred)
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) credential a plus, not required
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
