The Opportunity

A growing international freight forwarder is looking to add an Ocean Import Operator to its Chicago team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 1–3 years of ocean import experience who is looking to develop their career within a growing forwarding operation. You will be responsible for coordinating ocean import shipments from origin through to final delivery while providing a high level of customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage Ocean Import shipments from A–Z
• Coordinate FCL and LCL shipments
• Liaise with overseas agents, steamship lines, truckers and customers
• Track vessel arrivals and provide regular shipment updates
• Prepare and process all relevant import documentation
• Coordinate customs clearance and cargo releases
• Arrange final-mile delivery and monitor shipments through completion
• Maintain accurate shipment information within CargoWise
• Handle invoicing, billing and shipment costing
• Resolve delays, documentation issues and other operational exceptions
• Maintain strong communication with customers throughout the shipment lifecycle

Requirements

• 1–3 years of Ocean Import experience within freight forwarding
• Previous experience using CargoWise
• Understanding of FCL and LCL ocean freight
• Knowledge of import documentation and procedures
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple shipments within a fast-paced environment
