About the Role

We’re working with a well-established international freight forwarder in the Chicago area that’s looking to add an experienced Ocean Import / Export Specialist to their operations team. This is a hands-on role handling end-to-end ocean shipments for a varied customer base, with a strong focus on service, compliance, and execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle full A–Z ocean import and export operations (FCL & LCL)

• Coordinate shipments from booking through final delivery

• Prepare and review all ocean documentation (B/Ls, arrival notices, ISF, delivery orders, invoices)

• Liaise with steamship lines, overseas agents, trucking companies, warehouses, and customs brokers

• Monitor vessel schedules, track & trace shipments, and manage exceptions

• Ensure compliance with U.S. import/export regulations and internal SOPs

• Communicate proactively with customers regarding shipment status, delays, and solutions

Experience & Requirements

• 2+ years of ocean freight forwarding experience (import, export, or both)

• Strong understanding of FCL & LCL ocean operations

• Experience working in a fast-paced forwarder environment

• Familiarity with freight forwarding systems such as CargoWise (highly preferred)

• Strong attention to detail and customer-service mindset

• Authorized to work in the U.S.
