About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) to lead U.S. customs brokerage operations, ensuring full compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations while delivering exceptional service to import customers.
This is a leadership opportunity for a customs professional who enjoys solving complex compliance challenges, mentoring a team, and building efficient brokerage processes within a growing freight forwarding business.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of U.S. customs brokerage operations.
- Ensure compliance with CBP regulations and all Partner Government Agencies (PGAs), including FDA, USDA, EPA, Fish & Wildlife and other regulatory bodies.
- Review and approve customs entries, tariff classifications and valuation methodologies.
- Provide technical guidance on HTS classification, country of origin, duty assessment and customs compliance.
- Oversee Customs examinations, holds, post-entry amendments (PSCs), protests, CF28s, CF29s, CF3461, CF7501 and other customs documentation.
- Monitor brokerage KPIs, service levels and regulatory compliance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, CBP officials and government agencies.
- Develop and maintain SOPs to improve operational efficiency and minimise compliance risk.
- Support audits, internal compliance reviews and broker licence requirements.
- Mentor and develop customs brokerage staff.
Requirements
- Active U.S. Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) licence.
- 7+ years of customs brokerage experience within a freight forwarding or customs brokerage environment.
- Strong knowledge of CBP regulations, ACE, HTS classification and customs valuation.
- Experience handling FDA, USDA, EPA, Fish & Wildlife and other PGA requirements.
- Proven experience managing complex customs entries across multiple commodity sectors.
- Strong understanding of post-entry corrections, protests, drawback, T&Es and compliance procedures.
- Experience with CargoWise, NetCHB, Descartes or similar customs brokerage systems preferred.
- Excellent communication and customer relationship management skills.
- Strong organisational and leadership abilities.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience managing or leading a customs brokerage team.
- Experience supporting multinational importers.
- Customs compliance, audit and process improvement experience.
- Knowledge of duty optimisation programmes and free trade agreements.
