The Role
We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to drive new business growth across the freight forwarding and logistics market.
The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and winning new customers, developing commercial relationships with key decision-makers, and increasing revenue and gross profit across targeted accounts.
This is a new-business-focused role for a commercially driven individual who can open doors, build relationships and convert opportunities into profitable, long-term accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and target prospective customers across international freight forwarding and logistics.
- Develop and execute a structured new-business strategy across defined markets and verticals.
- Generate new opportunities through cold calling, networking, referrals, market intelligence and existing industry relationships.
- Build relationships with senior decision-makers, including Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics and C-suite stakeholders.
- Conduct customer meetings, discovery sessions and commercial presentations.
- Understand customer supply-chain requirements and develop commercially viable logistics solutions.
- Prepare and negotiate quotations, tenders and commercial proposals.
- Manage the sales pipeline from initial prospecting through to conversion and implementation.
- Work closely with Operations, Pricing, Customer Service and Management to ensure commercially viable solutions can be delivered.
- Develop newly won accounts and identify opportunities for additional revenue and services.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts and activity reporting.
- Monitor market developments, competitor activity and customer requirements.
- Achieve agreed targets for new revenue, gross profit, customer acquisition and activity.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience in freight forwarding, logistics or international supply chain.
- A demonstrable track record of winning new business.
- An established network of relevant customers and industry contacts.
- Strong knowledge of international air, ocean, road and/or multimodal freight.
- Excellent understanding of commercial pricing, margins and profitability.
- Strong negotiation and closing skills.
- The confidence to engage directly with senior decision-makers.
- A proactive, self-sufficient and target-driven approach.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- The ability to manage a sales pipeline and consistently convert opportunities into revenue.
