Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate breakbulk import shipments from arrival to final delivery, including port handling, customs clearance, and inland transport.

  • Liaise with carriers, stevedores, warehouse teams, and hauliers to schedule cargo unloading, storage, and distribution.

  • Prepare and review import documentation, including Bills of Lading, cargo manifests, packing lists, and commercial invoices.

  • Ensure accurate customs declarations in accordance with HMRC regulations and arrange clearance through customs brokers.

  • Communicate proactively with clients regarding shipment status, potential delays, and any special handling requirements.

  • Handle import entries for breakbulk and out-of-gauge cargo in systems such as CHIEF/CDS or via third-party customs platforms.

  • Maintain accurate job costing and invoicing in line with internal financial procedures.

  • Resolve discrepancies in cargo documentation, damage claims, and customs queries in a timely manner.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company SOPs throughout the cargo handling process.


Requirements:

  • Proven experience handling breakbulk or project cargo in a freight forwarding or logistics environment.

  • Strong knowledge of UK import procedures, including customs clearance, port operations, and HMRC compliance.

  • Familiarity with CHIEF, CDS, or relevant customs clearance software.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.

  • Ability to problem-solve in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with freight software (e.g. CargoWise, ASM Sequoia) is a plus.
