Export Operator

Location: Detroit, MI (DTW)

A growing, mid-sized international freight forwarder is looking to add an experienced Air & Ocean Export Operator to its team in the Detroit (DTW) market.

This is an excellent opportunity for an export professional who enjoys managing shipments from start to finish and wants to join a forwarder offering a close-knit environment, strong customer relationships, and continued growth.

The Role

As an Air & Ocean Export Operator, you will be responsible for coordinating international export shipments across both air and ocean freight. You will manage the full export process while ensuring shipments are handled accurately, efficiently, and in line with customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage Air & Ocean Export shipments from A–Z
• Coordinate bookings with airlines, steamship lines, truckers, and overseas offices/agents
• Prepare and process export documentation, including AWBs, BOLs, commercial documentation, and shipping instructions
• Process and maintain shipments within CargoWise
• Complete AES filings and ensure compliance with U.S. export regulations
• Handle Dangerous Goods shipments where required
• Track shipments and provide proactive updates to customers
• Liaise with customers, carriers, vendors, and international offices
• Review rates, routing options, and shipment requirements
• Resolve operational issues, delays, and documentation discrepancies
• Ensure files are accurately maintained and invoiced
• Deliver a high level of customer service throughout the shipment lifecycle

Requirements

• Previous experience within international freight forwarding
• Strong experience handling Air and/or Ocean Exports
• Ideally comfortable managing shipments from booking through to final billing
• CargoWise experience strongly preferred
• Knowledge of AES and U.S. export procedures
• Dangerous Goods certification/experience is advantageous
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Good attention to detail and problem-solving ability
