A growing international freight forwarding and logistics provider is seeking a Customs Entry Writer to join its Knoxville office. Position Overview
The Customs Entry Writer will be responsible for preparing and submitting customs entries, ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, and supporting the smooth clearance of international shipments. The successful candidate will work closely with customers, customs officials, carriers, and internal operations teams to ensure shipments move efficiently through the import process.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit customs entries for air, ocean, and ground freight shipments.
- Classify goods using HTS codes and ensure accurate duty and tax calculations.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and supporting import documentation.
- Coordinate with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), government agencies, customers, and carriers to facilitate customs clearance.
- Monitor shipments throughout the clearance process and resolve any customs-related issues.
- Ensure compliance with CBP regulations and company procedures.
- Maintain accurate shipment records and customs documentation.
- Communicate proactively with customers regarding shipment status, delays, and clearance requirements.
- Support audits, compliance reviews, and internal reporting requirements.
- Work closely with import operations teams to ensure timely delivery of shipments.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Customs Entry Writer, Customs Specialist, Import Coordinator, or similar customs brokerage role.
- Strong understanding of U.S. Customs regulations and import procedures.
- Experience preparing customs entries and import documentation.
- Knowledge of HTS classification and customs compliance requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and customer service abilities.
- Experience with customs brokerage and freight forwarding systems is preferred.
- Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) designation is advantageous but not required.
