Business Development Director, Air & Ocean Sales

 

Location: New York/New Jersey

Reports to: Vice President of Sales / Managing Director

 

Role Overview:

 

The Business Development Director, Air & Ocean Sales is a hunting role focused on actively seeking out and generating new business opportunities in the fashion and retail sectors. This is not a leadership or management position but a highly proactive sales role where the focus is on driving new revenue through door knocking, prospecting, and closing deals. You will be responsible for identifying key prospects, building strong relationships with potential clients, and securing new business in the competitive freight forwarding landscape. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the fashion and retail supply chain, coupled with proven sales expertise in the logistics industry.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Aggressive Prospecting: Identify, approach, and convert new business opportunities within the fashion and retail sectors. This is a true hunter role, where you will be responsible for knocking on doors and driving new client acquisition from start to finish.
  • Sales Execution: Manage the full sales cycle—from lead generation and cold calling to closing deals. You’ll be expected to secure new clients and generate significant revenue through direct sales efforts.
  • Client Relationship Building: Build long-term relationships with fashion brands, retailers, and e-commerce platforms, providing tailored logistics solutions to meet their specific needs.
  • Operational Collaboration: Partner with operational teams to ensure seamless delivery of services to clients, optimizing supply chain efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Market Intelligence: Stay ahead of market trends in the fashion and retail sectors, using insights to position the company as the go-to provider for Air & Ocean logistics solutions.
  • Sales Targets: Meet and exceed new business targets, managing your pipeline, and reporting on progress using CRM tools and performance metrics.
  • Industry Networking: Represent the company at industry events and trade shows, networking with decision-makers in the fashion and retail sectors.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and industry standards, including IATA, FMC, and CBP regulations.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Business, Logistics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Air & Ocean freight forwarding or logistics sales, with a focus on the fashion and retail industries.
  • Proven track record in hunting new business and consistently achieving sales targets.
  • Strong experience in lead generation, cold calling, and securing new clients in a competitive environment.
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships with decision-makers and close deals.
  • In-depth knowledge of the fashion and retail supply chain, including distribution, inventory management, and e-commerce logistics.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage C-level executives.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple projects and priorities.
