International Operations Supervisor

Location: Chicago, IL (O'Hare / ORD Area)
Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 + Benefits

A growing international freight forwarding and logistics provider is seeking an experienced International Operations Supervisor to join its Chicago operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing international Air & Ocean freight operations, supporting customer service excellence, driving operational performance, and developing a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of freight forwarding professionals across international operations.
• Deliver exceptional customer service through proactive communication and effective problem resolution.
• Manage daily Air & Ocean Export operations while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and service excellence.
• Work closely with sales, accounting, and compliance teams to ensure customer expectations are met and business objectives are achieved.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, overseas agents, and logistics partners.
• Support pricing activities and assist with customer-specific logistics solutions.
• Monitor operational KPIs and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop and maintain SOPs to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance.
• Ensure all shipments are handled in accordance with company standards and international trade regulations.
• Provide coaching, training, and development to team members while fostering a positive and accountable culture.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience within international freight forwarding, logistics, or transportation.
• Previous leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience preferred.
• Strong background in Air & Ocean Export operations; Import experience is highly advantageous.
• Solid understanding of international shipping processes, customs requirements, and global trade compliance.
• Experience managing customer relationships and handling escalations.
• Ability to prioritize multiple shipments and operational tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and freight forwarding systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
• Experience with operational reporting, KPI management, and process improvement initiatives.
• Commercial awareness with the ability to support pricing and profitability objectives.
