Sea Freight Import Operator – A-Z

Location: Hamburg, Germany
Salary: Up to €70,000 per annum
Employment: Full-Time / Permanent

The Opportunity

We are working with an established international freight forwarder in Hamburg that is looking to strengthen its Sea Freight team with an experienced Sea Freight Import Operator.

This is a true A-Z operational position, giving you full responsibility for your own shipments from initial booking and pre-alert through to customs coordination, final delivery and invoicing.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage Sea Freight Import shipments from A-Z
• Handle both FCL and LCL import shipments
• Process bookings, pre-alerts and shipping documentation
• Monitor shipments from origin through to final delivery
• Liaise with shipping lines, overseas agents, customers and hauliers
• Coordinate customs clearance and relevant documentation
• Arrange container collections and final deliveries
• Manage Bills of Lading and other import documentation
• Monitor vessel schedules, arrivals and potential delays
• Handle demurrage, detention and storage issues where required
• Provide customers with regular shipment updates
• Prepare quotations and calculate operational costs
• Complete file costing and final invoicing
• Resolve operational issues while maintaining a high level of customer service

Your Profile

• Previous experience within Sea Freight / Ocean Freight Imports
• Strong knowledge of the full A-Z import process
• Experience handling FCL and LCL shipments
• Good knowledge of shipping documentation and customs processes
• Fluent German is essential
• Good English communication skills
• Confident communicating with customers, carriers and overseas agents
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple shipments
• Able to work independently and take full ownership of files
• Previous freight forwarding experience within the Hamburg market is advantageous
