Sales Team Lead / Senior Commercial Manager

Overview

An established international freight forwarding and logistics provider is seeking an experienced commercial professional to lead a small sales team while maintaining responsibility for their own business development activities.

This is a hybrid leadership and individual contributor role, offering a clear progression path into a senior commercial leadership position.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Leadership

  • Lead, coach and support a team of sales professionals.

  • Monitor sales activity, pipeline performance and account development through the CRM.

  • Conduct regular team meetings to review performance, priorities and opportunities.

  • Accompany team members on strategic customer visits where appropriate.

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support while promoting a collaborative, high-performance culture.

Commercial Oversight

  • Review and approve sales-related travel and business expenses.

  • Ensure commercial activities align with company policies and compliance requirements.

  • Support planning and execution of strategic sales initiatives.

Business Development

  • Develop and grow your own portfolio of customers.

  • Generate new business opportunities across international freight forwarding and logistics services.

  • Build long-term customer relationships while achieving commercial growth targets.

Requirements

  • Proven track record in international freight forwarding business development.

  • Demonstrated success managing the full sales cycle from prospecting through to closing.

  • Previous experience leading or mentoring commercial teams.

  • Strong understanding of air, ocean and contract logistics solutions.

  • Experience working with customers in sectors such as luxury goods, fashion, furniture or other specialised industries is advantageous.

  • Knowledge of European trade lanes is preferred.

  • Understanding of warehousing, 3PL solutions and commercial service agreements.

  • Experience working within a business undergoing organisational change or post-acquisition integration would be beneficial.

Reporting Structure

  • Reports directly to the executive leadership team.

  • Active involvement in commercial planning, pricing strategy and business growth initiatives.
