Operations Manager – Air & Sea Freight

About the Role:
We are partnering with a leading global freight forwarder in their search for an Operations Manager to lead their Air & Sea Freight division based at the Düsseldorf branch. This role will oversee the operations team, primarily focusing on airfreight, and manage a dedicated team of around 12 employees.
The Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and timely handling of shipments, optimizing operational processes, and maintaining a high standard of service for customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in freight forwarding operations, proven leadership skills, and a solid understanding of the airfreight and sea freight sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee day-to-day operations for the airfreight and sea freight division, with a primary focus on airfreight
  • Manage, mentor, and motivate a team of approximately 12 employees, ensuring performance goals are met and exceeded
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure timely and cost-effective transport solutions
  • Drive process improvements to enhance operational efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, customs, and safety standards
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess team performance and customer satisfaction
  • Address and resolve any operational challenges to maintain smooth service flow
  • Support senior management with strategic planning for operational growth and team development

Requirements:
  • Experience in airfreight and sea freight operations, with a strong preference for airfreight expertise
  • Leadership skills with proven experience in managing and developing teams
  • Fluent in German and English (spoken and written)
  • Solid understanding of customs regulations, compliance standards, and the freight forwarding industry
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
