Job Title: Ocean Import Specialist

Company Overview:
Altius Talent is partnering with a growing international freight forwarding provider based near JFK, with an established footprint in global air and ocean freight movement and a strong, active volume of import activity across key trade lanes.
Position Overview:
Our client is looking for an Ocean Import Specialist to oversee ocean import shipments from booking through final delivery. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience managing FCL/LCL shipments and navigating customs clearance in a high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage ocean import shipments from vessel departure through arrival, customs clearance, and delivery
- Prepare and process import documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and customs entries
- Coordinate with steamship lines, customs brokers, drayage carriers, and overseas agents
- Monitor container tracking, demurrage/detention timelines, and port release schedules
- Resolve shipment discrepancies, holds, and delays proactively
- Maintain accurate shipment records within the company's operating system
- Ensure compliance with CBP regulations and internal SOPs
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in ocean import operations within freight forwarding
- Familiarity with FCL/LCL processes, bills of lading, and customs entry procedures
- Experience with industry systems such as CargoWise, Magaya, or similar platforms
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage a high-volume shipment portfolio
- Effective communicator across carriers, brokers, and internal teams
