About the Opportunity

A well-established international freight forwarder is seeking an experienced Ocean Import Specialist to join its growing operations team in Downtown Chicago. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong ocean import experience looking to join a collaborative team with excellent benefits and a healthy work-life balance.

Working within a fast-paced environment, you will be responsible for managing ocean import shipments from origin through to final delivery while ensuring exceptional customer service and compliance throughout the shipment lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage ocean import shipments from A-Z.
• Coordinate with overseas offices, customers, carriers, trucking companies and customs brokers.
• Prepare and process all import documentation accurately.
• Track shipments and proactively communicate updates to customers.
• Arrange final delivery and inland transportation.
• Resolve shipment issues and exceptions efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with all company procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and service providers.
• Maintain accurate shipment records within the company operating system.

Requirements

• Previous experience working within Ocean Imports for a freight forwarder.
• Strong understanding of international shipping documentation and import procedures.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Salary: $60,000 per year
• Paid bi-monthly
• 2 weeks (10 days) paid vacation
• Up to 5 unused vacation days may be carried over into the first three months of the following year (must be used by the end of March)
