Licensed Customs Broker (LCB)
About the Role
Altius Talent is representing a well-established freight forwarder seeking a Licensed Customs Broker to take the lead on customs compliance and entry operations within their Chicago (ORD) branch.
This is a key position for a hands-on, detail-oriented professional with strong regulatory expertise and leadership potential. The role will serve as the designated license holder for the branch, overseeing compliance processes while supporting clients across diverse commodities. As operations expand, the successful candidate will also take on mentoring and team leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities

Act as the licensed broker of record for the branch, ensuring full compliance with CBP and all applicable PGA regulations

Prepare and process customs entries across a wide range of commodities in ACE/ABI

Oversee post-entry activities such as PSCs, protests, prior disclosures, and internal audits

Stay up to date on changes to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), rulings, and trade policy updates

Provide expert guidance on Section 232, Section 301, IEEPA, and other trade-related matters

Advise clients on documentation, classification, valuation, and compliance inquiries

Support internal and external audits and ensure robust recordkeeping practices

Collaborate with other departments to enhance workflow efficiency and shipment visibility

Build and mentor entry writers as the customs team grows
Preferred Skills & Experience

Active U.S. Customs Broker License (required)

Minimum 5 years’ experience in customs brokerage or international freight forwarding

Strong knowledge of HTS classification, GRI interpretation, and CBP rulings

Experience managing Section 232/301 trade remedies and compliance programs

Familiarity with FDA, USDA, EPA, and other PGA filing requirements

Proficient with ACE/ABI; experience with CargoWise highly preferred

Excellent communication skills – able to simplify complex regulations for clients and colleagues

Organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities

Previous leadership or team development experience advantageous
