Head of Sea Freight – Hamburg

Salary: Up to €90,000 + Company Car + Bonus

Altius is exclusively partnered with a growing German freight forwarder that is seeking an experienced Head of Sea Freight to lead and expand their operations team based in Hamburg.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated leader who thrives in a hands-on environment and is looking to play a key role in driving growth and shaping the sea freight product within an ambitious forwarder.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, manage, and develop a team of 5 sea freight professionals, with headcount expected to grow as business expands.
• Oversee the daily sea freight operations (export and import), ensuring service quality and operational excellence.
• Act as a hands-on operational lead while providing strategic direction for the department.
• Drive business growth by developing processes, improving efficiency, and supporting commercial teams with product expertise.
• Maintain strong relationships with carriers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, company standards, and industry requirements.

Requirements:

• Proven background in sea freight forwarding with leadership experience in a similar role.
• Strong operational expertise – comfortable with hands-on involvement while managing the wider team.
• Excellent people management skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and grow a team.
• Commercial awareness and the ability to support company growth objectives.
• Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken.
